Maddy HeineYoga Teacher

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
Born and raised in the Midwest, though Northern Indiana is “home”

How long have you been practicing Bikram Yoga and what prompted you to take your first Bikram Yoga class?
I’ve been practicing since December 2019. I had enjoyed other forms of hot yoga before, and when I googled “hot yoga near me” a Bikram studio popped up less than five minutes away. I was quickly hooked!

Why did you become an instructor and what aspects of Bikram Yoga have had the greatest effect on you?
I went to teacher training because I love learning – I’m a perpetual student (I also have two Master’s degrees because I just really like learning!). For me, Bikram Yoga’s sequence is what I love the most – it’s the same 26 and 2 every day, every class. I love being able to come into a class, look in the mirror, turn my brain off and let my body take over. Even with the same sequence, it’s never the same class and I have never been bored.

What do you like to do when you are not in the yoga room?
I love spending time with my family, walking our dog, and having too many craft projects going on at once. I also enjoy reading, baking, and the occasional camping trip.

What is your favorite pose in the Bikram series and why?
It changes all the time! I have always loved Fixed Firm, though. I struggle with ankle mobility after some pretty bad sprains and I really like checking in with how my joints are feeling in that posture.

What advice would you give to any new student?
Be curious- with the poses, with your body, with what you’re capable of. Each day our body is different. Come to each class with curiosity, not expectations.
