Roy EnriquezYoga Teacher

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in Dallas, TX and grew up in Carrollton.

How long have you been practicing Bikram Yoga and what prompted you to take your first Bikram Yoga class?
I have been practicing since May of 2009 (almost 15 years) when a friend recommended the practice to me when I told him I was no longer making any weight loss or strength goals from going to the gym.

Why did you become an instructor and what aspects of Bikram Yoga have had the greatest effect on you?
I had participated in the yoga competitions since early in my practice. I fell in love with the advanced series of postures and took the advanced work shop in 2011 with Bikram in California. Since then, teaching the advance class at BYR has brought me so much joy. The practice has not only served as a fountain of youth, but has pushed physical stiffness further down the road and allowed me to stay more active for activities like hiking, swimming and biking.

What do you like to do when you are not in the yoga room?
I enjoy spending time with my husband Joseph and my cat, Phoenix, and my two dogs Jackson and Ranger.

What is your favorite pose in the Bikram series and why?
Rabbit. Through all my physical conditions whether it be peak health or multiple injuries, rabbit has always brought me the most relief and made me feel free of tension.

What advice would you give to any new student?
In the beginning, it is a test of endurance. Trust in process and come as often as possible. Push yourself to as far as your body can go in the posture without falling. Stay there and wait till it goes from discomfort to comfort. Before you know it, your depth in the posture will come naturally.
